ORAL HEALTH CONDITIONS
This introduction to Oral Pathology and associated risks is intended to help general health practitioners and those involved in their training. The knowledge provided assumes that such conditions are being managed in a low resource setting and Oral conditions are grouped together for teaching purposes only.
Oral Health Promotion & Prevention, within a general health programme is the ideal aim but it is assumed that in low resource communities, many conditions will most likely present in an advanced state.
Each condition includes:
- a brief description
- what to look for
- possible prevention & treatment
- associated risks to health.
Conditions are grouped as follows:
- Teeth
- Gums
- Viral/fungal
- Ulcers
- Oral cancer
- Trauma
- Other.
To help in managing care, each group also includes associated Risks to Health under 4 headings, some of which may overlap:
- Background
- General health/immune system
- Behaviours
- Treatment.
